Anthony founded Pets At Home, the UK’s leading retailer of pet related products, in 1991 when he opened the first shop in Chester. In 1995 Anthony raised £5 million of development capital to further expand the business. Further funds were raised in 1999 to complete the £70 million acquisition of Petsmart, a US owned competitor, that increased the store portfolio to 140 stores across the UK. After a period of consolidation the company continued to expand its store portfolio and in July 2004 the company was acquired by Bridgepoint in a £230 million deal.

Anthony  remained on the board of Pets At Home as a non-executive Director and as an investor in the business. In 2010 KKR acquired Pets At Home from Bridgepoint for £955m.
